CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia senior tailback Alvin Pearman (Charlotte, N.C.) has earned co-ACC Specialist of the Week honor, the conference announced on Tuesday.

In UVa’s 44-14 win at Temple last Saturday, Pearman played an integral role for the special teams. To open the second quarter, Pearman returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown, marking the longest punt return for UVa since Tiki Barber returned a punt 74 yards for a touchdown against NC State in 1996. On his return, Pearman broke at least half a dozen tackles, and the play was listed among the Top 10 Plays of the Day on ESPN’s Sports Center.

Pearman led all UVa players in all-purpose yards with 146. He also rushed the ball for 38 yards on eight carries. The team’s 286 total rushing yards are the most since 1998.

Virginia hosts North Carolina in the ACC and home opener on Saturday, Sept. 11. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. on ABC-TV.
