Today’s Game: The Virginia Cavaliers return home this weekend to host the 2004 Virginia Nike Soccer Classic. The Cavaliers will take on UCLA on Friday night and South Carolina on Sunday afternoon. Maryland is the fourth team in the tournament.

The Cavaliers are 4-0 to start the season, posting four shutouts. Last weekend, Virginia downed No. 21 West Virginia 1-0 in Morgantown.

UCLA is 3-0 on the season after wins over San Diego, Loyola Marymount, and UC-Santa Barbara.

All-Time Series: Today marks the third all-time meeting between the schools, with UCLA holding a 1-0-1 advantage in the series. Tonight’s match marks the first meeting between the schools outside of California. In 1995, the teams played to 1-1 tie in Livermore, Calif. At the 2002 UCLA College Cup, the Bruins posted a 4-3 overtime win over the Cavaliers.

Virginia Tournament History: This weekend marks the 18th time the Cavaliers have hosted a regular season tournament. The Cavaliers have won their tournament nine times before, including last season’s Virginia Nike Soccer Classic. Last season, the event featured four top-25 teams, as No. 18 Virginia downed No. 3 Santa Clara and No. 23 USC to capture the title.
