CHARLOTTESVILLE – Four Virginia men’s tennis players and two women’s tennis players were ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) preseason singles and doubles rankings.
In the men’s rankings, the Cavaliers had two singles players and two doubles teams ranked. Third-year Doug Stewart (Malibu, Calif.), a 2004 All-American, begins the 2004-05 season with a career high No. 5 singles ranking. Fellow third-year Rylan Rizza (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) is ranked No. 75 in the preseason rankings, also a career high. The team of Rizza and Nick Meythaler (Owensboro, Ky.), who qualified for the 2004 NCAA Tournament last spring, open the season ranked a career high No. 6. Stewart and first-year Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) are No. 35 in the preseason rankings.
In the women’s rankings, the Cavaliers have one doubles team ranked. Third-years Lauren Bruch (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Douglas Wink (Greensboro, N.C.), a transfer from Georgia, are No. 50 in the preseason rankings.
