Virginia Football is on the Air

Sept. 17, 2004 – Virginia football game day coverage will begin at 1 PM Saturday as WINA AM 1070 in Charlottesville presents Cavalier Countdown. Hosts Rick Daniels, Jed Williams, and former UVa quarterback Tim Sherman will break down the match-up between Virginia and Akron until 2:30 PM.

The Virginia Sports Network will continue coverage of the 2004 homecoming game with a half-hour pre-game show. Cavalier Game Day begins at 2:30 PM onaffiliates across the Commonwealth. Mac McDonald, Jed Williams, and former ACC Player of the Year Frank Quayle will provide in-depth coverage from Scott Stadium in Charlottesville. The show will include an interview with Coach Al Groh, a feature on UVA’s dynamic special teams unit, and Up Close with fullback Jason Snelling who is currently leading the Wahoos in yards per carry.

Following the game, listen to the UVa Health System Post-Game Report. This hour-long program will include comments from Coach Groh and players from the Virginia locker room. Listeners are invited to review the game with Mac and Frank by calling 877-TALK-UVA or *UVA1 on an Alltel cellular phone.

Cavalier Sports Weekly presented by The Virginia Lottery, a new half-hour television show, will make its third appearance Sunday. UVA soccer star Kelly Hammond will be the host of the program. The show will feature the complete homecoming game story from Saturday including highlights and reaction from Coach Groh and Cavalier players, as well as a look ahead to the Syracuse game next week. Next, CSW will look at Elton Brown, one of the best offensive guards (football) in the nation, and his cousin Elton Brown, one of the best centers (basketball) in the nation. It turns out that they have more in common that just their name and athletic prowess. After hightlighting the Brown cousins, CSW will feature sisters Emily and Sarah Kirkwood, two rising stars on the Virginia volleyball team. Tune in Sunday for all this and more, and stay up-to-date on all of the Virginia athletic action.

Monday evening, Cavalier fans have a chance to talk with head coach Al Groh live on Cavalier Call-In. This program airs from 7:06-8:00 p.m. on the Virginia Sports Network. Mac McDonald and Coach Groh will discuss the Akron game and look ahead to next week’s game against Syracuse.
