NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Virginia men’s golf team finished in a tie for 11th place at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The Cavaliers’ final round score of 294 (+10) gave them a total of 869 (+17).
Georgia State ran away with the team title, compiling a three-round score of 831 (-21). Host Vanderbilt slid into second at 851 (-1). Alabama took third at 853 (+1)
Georgia State’s Ty Harris continued to go low, shooting a 64 (-7) in the final round to take the individual medal at 195 (-18). Jordan Dempsey of Ole Miss took second at 206 (-7), followed by UCF’s Andreas Hoeberg at 207 (-6) and UAB’s Ryan Thomas at 210 (-3).
Cavalier Senior Kevin O’Connell (Potomac, Md.) shot an even-par 71 in the final round to finish in a tie for 21st at 214 (+1). Junior Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) finished with a 217 (+4) to tie for 35th. Sophomore Dan McGurk (Woodlands, Texas) tied for 47th at 220 (+7). Sophomore Mark Perry (Atlanta, Ga.) tied for 55th at 222 (+9). Sophomore Dan Gabel (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the Cavaliers, tying for 70th with a score of 230 (+17).
The Cavaliers return to action October 8-10 at the Franklin Street Trust Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
