CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Virginia men’s tennis team had three players advance in the second round of singles qualifying of the ITA All-American Championships.
In singles, Rylan Rizza (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.), Virginia’s only seeded player in the qualifying round, defeated Strahinja Bobusic of Georgia 6-4, 6-4. First-year Somdev Devvarman (Tamil Nadu, India) downed Jerry Makowski of Texas A&M 6-3, 6-3. Fellow first-year Treat Huey (Alexandia, Va.) downed No. 17 seed Colin O’Grady of Arizona 6-4, 6-4.
Qualifying rounds continue on Wednesday as the Cavalier players will try to join the Cavaliers who automatically qualified for the main draw. Doug Stewart (Malibu, Calif.) is in the singles main draw, as is the doubles team of Rizza and Nick Meythaler (Owensboro, Ky.).
