`HOOS UP NEXT?: The Virginia Cavaliers (7-2-0, 2-1-0 ACC) will face the Liberty Flames (5-5-1, 2-1-0 Big South) in a non-conference match on Wednesday, October 6th at 7:00 PM at UVa’s Klockner Stadium.
THE SERIES WITH LIBERTY: Virginia leads the all-time series with Liberty in men’s soccer 12-0-0 in a series that dates back to 1986. In the first meeting between the two schools, Virginia defeated Liberty 2-0 on October 22nd, 1986 in Charlottesville, Va. UVa was ranked #3 in the country at the time.
LAST TIME THEY MET: Virginia defeated Liberty by the score of 2-1 on October 24th, 2003 in Charlottesville, Va. in the last meeting between the two schools in men’s soccer.
CAVALIERS LOOKING TO MAKE IT A BAKER’S DOZEN OVER FLAMES: Virginia and Liberty will be meeting for the 13th time in men’s soccer on October 6th. UVa has defeated LU in each of the 12 previous meetings and the Cavaliers will be in search of their 13th consecutive win over the Flames.
SEVEN DIFFERENT CAVALIERS HAVE SCORED A GAME-WINNING GOAL: Talk about getting production from various players. In each of Virginia’s seven victories, a different Cavalier has scored the game-winning goal. So far this season, UVa has received a game-winning goal from: Adam Cristman, Hunter Freeman, Ian Holder, Matt Ayotte, Nico Colaluca, John Hartman and Will Hall.
THIS IS OUR HOUSE!: Virginia is a perfect 5-0-0 in games played at home at Klöckner Stadium this season. The Cavaliers have a minimum total of 12 home contests (regular season games) scheduled this year.
UVA OUTSCORING ITS OPPONENTS BY MORE THAN TWO TO ONE: Heading into its game with Liberty on October 6th, Virginia is outscoring its opponents by more than a two goals to one ratio. As of October 6th, UVa has scored 19 goals to it opponents eight. Virginia has also outscored its opponents in points (58-to-23), dished out more assists (20-to-7) and has taken more shots (61-to-34).
VIRGINIA’S HUNTER FREEMAN RECORDING POINTS IN BUNCHES: Virginia’s Hunter Freeman, a third-year defender/midfielder, entered this season with just four points resulting from four assists after two years of action. Nine games into the 2004 season, Freeman has scored 10 points to more than doubles his two-year point total from the previous two seasons. In UVa’s last four-games (against Manhattan, North Carolina, UMBC and N.C. State), Freeman has scored eight points by posting one goal and dishing out six assists.
NINE OF UVA’S LAST 11 GAMES ARE AT HOME, INCLUDING CURRENT FIVE-GAME HOMESTAND: Beginning with its match against UMBC on September 29th to kick-off a five-game homestand, Virginia will play nine of its last 11 regular season games at home. UVa has a five-game homestand from September 29 – October 12, a three-game homestand from October 20 – October 27 and a regular season finale match at home against Maryland on November 5th. The only two remaining regular season roads games for the Cavaliers are on October 17th (at Clemson) and October 30th (at Virginia Tech).

UVa began the 2004 season ranked #8 in College Soccer News’ Preseason Top-30 poll, #11 in Soccer America’s Preseason Top-25 poll, #13 in the Soccer Times Preseason Top-25 poll and #20 in the NSCAA/adidas Preseason Top-25 poll.
