Virginia Defeats Concordia 88-76 In Second Game Of Canadian Trip

MONTREAL – The University of Virginia men’s basketball team defeated Concordia University 88-76 in the Concordia Nike Tournament Saturday afternoon (Oct. 9). Virginia won both of its games in the tournament.
UVa plays the last of its three exhibition games in Canada on Sunday (Oct. 10) when the Cavaliers face McGill University.
Senior forward/center Elton Brown led the Cavaliers with 23 points and 13 rebounds against Concordia and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. UVa senior forward Devin Smith was named to the All-Tournament team after scoring 13 points and grabbing six rebounds against the Stingers.
Also scoring in double figures for Virginia in the victory over Concordia were sophomore forward-guard Gary Forbes with 14 points and freshman forward Adrian Joseph with 12. Forbes also had seven rebounds.
The Cavaliers led 54-38 at halftime and shot 51.5 percent (34-66) from the field for the game. Virginia out-rebounded Concordia 42-25 and limited the Stingers to 38.5 percent shooting from the field.
Forward Jon Dresner scored 20 points to lead Concordia.
Virginia’s starting lineup in the game was comprised of freshman guard Sean Singletary, sophomore guard J.R. Reynolds, senior forward Jason Clark, Brown and Forbes.
