CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Virginia men’s golf team finished third at the Franklin Street Partners Invitational on Sunday.
Host North Carolina captured the team title with a 25-under 839. Georgia Southern was second with a 19-under 845. The Cavaliers were third with a five-under 859, 16 strokes better than fourth place East Tennessee State.
Georgia Southern’s David Palm took home medalist honors with a nine-under 207. UNC’s Martin Ureta finished one stroke behind with an eight-under 208, while three players tied for third with a seven-under 209 each.
Sophomore Mark Perry (Atlanta, Ga.) fired a career-best three-under 69 in the final round to finish sixth overall, marking the first Top 10 finish of his career. Senior Kevin O’Connell (Potomac, Md.) finished one-under with a 215 to tie for 11th, while junior Carter Henderson (Nashville, Tenn.) took 14th with an even 216. Junior Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) tied for 15th with a 217 (+1), and sophomore Dan Gabel (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the Cavaliers with a 228 (+12).
Virginia will participate in the Tournament of Champions in Knoxville, Tenn., on Oct. 18-19.
