NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Virginia women’s golf team tied for 13th at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate at the Cherokee Country Club on Sunday.
Ohio State captured the team title from the field of 17 teams with a 874 (+22). Host Tennessee and Tulane tied for second with a 881 (+29) each. The Cavaliers shot a 310 (+26) in the final round to finish with a 928 (+76).
Tennessee’s Violeta Retamoza took home medalist honors with a two-under 211. Tulane’s Alison Walshe followed by a stroke with a one-under 212, and Ohio State’s Lindsay Knowlton was third with a 215 (+2).
Sophomore Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) paced the Cavaliers with a 224 (+11) to tie for 13th. Sophomore Sally Shonk (Noblesville, Ind.) finished with a 233 (+20), while freshman Lauren Mielbrecht (Gulf Stream, Va.) followed with a 237 (+24). Sophomore Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.V.) shot a 240 (+27), and sophomore Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.) rounded out the scoring with a 244 (+31).
Virginia will conclude its fall schedule at the ACC-SEC Challenge on Oct. 29-31.
