CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Virginia men’s tennis team concluded play at the ITA All-American Championships in Chattanooga with three players having strong runs in the main draw.
Doug Stewart (Malibu, Calif.) advanced to the round of 16 for the second consecutive year before falling to John Isner of Georgia in three sets.
After falling in the first round, Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) and Rylan Rizza (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) had strong runs in the back draw. Devvarman reached the backdraw final before falling to No. 14 ranked Alex Slovic of Washington. Earlier in the backdraw, Devvarman had defeated three ranked players, No. 108 Peter Rodrigues of Duke, No. 28 Chris Lam of UCLA, and No. 111 GD Jones of Illinois. Rizza defeated No. 22 Dmitriy Koch of Tulane and No. 88 Christoph Palmanshefer of Washington before falling to Jones in the backdraw quarterfinal.
