Today’s Game: The Virginia Cavaliers travel to Chapel Hill for one of the marquee regular season games in women’s soccer this season. It is only the second meeting between two top 5 Soccer America teams this year (#2 Notre Dame def. #4 Santa Clara 5-2 on Sept. 3).

The Cavaliers are 11-1-1 on the season after a 5-0 win over James Madison on Tuesday night. Virginia is looking for its third win over a top-ten team this season (W 3-1 over #8 UCLA, W 1-0 at #8 Florida State).

North Carolina has continued to set the standard for collegiate women’s soccer this season. The Tar Heels enter the game on a 41-game unbeaten streak (40-0-1). UNC has also been dominant at home, unbeaten since 1999 at Fetzer Field (50-0-2) and unbeaten in ACC regular season games at Fetzer Field since 1994 (31-0-2).

All-Time Series: Today is the 28th all-time meeting between the schools with the Tar Heels having won each of the first 27 meetings. No team has played North Carolina more times without a victory than the Cavaliers. Almost a quarter of Virginia’s all-time losses (27 of 118, 22.9%) have come to North Carolina. Last season, the Tar Heels used two second half goals to break a halftime tie for a 3-1 win in Charlottesville. In the last meeting in Chapel Hill, the Cavaliers led 1-0 in after 80 minutes before the Tar Heels rallied with two goals in the final ten minutes for a 2-1 win.

Foley Sets New Assist Record: With two assists against James Madison, midfielder Shannon Foley set a new Virginia season assist record with 12 on the year. The old mark had stood for nine years, as Tania Jovanovich and Dina Padula each had 11 assists in 1995.
