CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia men’s soccer player Hunter Freeman (Allen, Texas/Bradenton Academy) was named to Soccer America’s Team of the Week for Week 7 (October 11-17). Freeman, a third-year defender/midfielder, dished out two assists and helped the UVa defense surrender just one goal in two games after he started in both of Virginia’s victories over Saint Francis – NY (3-1) and Clemson (2-0) on October 12th and 17th, respectively. UVa is currently 11-2-0 overall, 3-1-0 in the ACC.
For the season, Freeman has started all 13 games he has appeared in and has recorded a team-high 15 points resulting from an NCAA-leading 13 assists and one goal. His 13 assists this season is already tied for seventh all-time at UVa for the most assists in a single season. Freeman’s goal this year, the first collegiate goal of his career, was the game-winning goal for Virginia in a 4-1 victory over Manhattan on September 21st.
Freeman entered this season with just four points resulting from four assists after two years of action. Thirteen games into the 2004 season, Freeman has scored 15 points to more than triple his two-year point total from the previous two seasons. Freeman scored 13 points by posting one goal and dishing out 11 assists in a seven-game stretch from September 21st – October 12th against Manhattan, North Carolina, UMBC, N.C. State, Liberty, Davidson and Saint Francis.
