Four Cavaliers Advance at ITA Mideast Region Championships

CHAPEL HILL, NC – The Virginia men’s tennis team had four players advance to the third round of the ITA Mideast Regional on Friday. The Cavaliers have four of the 32-players remaining in the 128-player draw, which features the top players in the region.

Rylan Rizza (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.), a No. 9 seed, posted a 6-4, 7-5 win over NC State’s Andre Iriarte in the second round. Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India), also a No. 9 seed, advanced to the third round with a 7-5, 6-2 win over David Stone of North Carolina after receiving a first round bye. Marko Miklo (Bratislava, Slovakia), a No. 17 seed, rallied to defeat Duke’s Ned Samuelson 5-7, 6-4, 4-1 ret. in the second round to advance. Nick Meythaler scored a pair of wins on Friday to advance, defeating Alex Cojanu of William & Mary and Francesc Lleal of VCU.

The tournament continues Saturday and runs through Monday at the University of North Carolina.
