CHAPEL HILL, NC – Third-year Virginia tennis player Rylan Rizza (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) reached the quarterfinals of the ITA Mideast Regional held at the University of North Carolina. Rizza and fellow third-year Nick Meythaler (Owensboro, Ky.) reached the quarterfinals of the doubles draw.
In singles, Rizza, a No. 9 seed, posted straight set wins over Sam Chang of Florida State and Brad Pomeroy of North Carolina on Saturday.
In doubles, the No. 1 seeded duo of Rizza and Meythaler, defeated the team of Andrew Hamar and Todd Paul of Wake Forest 8-5 in Saturday’s second round.
Action continues Sunday and concludes Monday.
