CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The first contest (Game 1) of the University of Virginia baseball team’s second annual “Orange vs. Blue World Series” has been cancelled due to poor field conditions due to inclement weather in the Charlottesville, Va. area. Game 1 of the series has been rescheduled for Thursday, October 28th at 4:00 PM and will now be considered Game 3 of the series. The series, originally scheduled for October 25-27, will now be held on October 26-28 at Davenport Field at the UVa Baseball Stadium.

The Cavaliers will participate in three intrasquad scrimmages consisting of two teams, the Orange Team and the Blue Team. Game 1 will take place on Tuesday, October 26th at 4:00 PM, Game 2 is set for Wednesday, October 27th at 6:00 PM and Game 3 will be played on Thursday, October 28th at 4:00 PM. All three contests will be seven inning affairs and admission to the games is free of charge.

Second-year UVa assistant coach Karl Kuhn will serve as the manager for the Blue Team, while first-year assistant coach Joe Hastings will serve as the manger for the Orange Team .

A total of 28 Cavaliers will participate in the Orange vs. Blue World Series. The Orange Team will consist of: Ryan Zimmerman (#11), Robert Poutier (#25), Nick Cruit (#12), Sean Doolittle (#5), Kyle Werman (#2), Casey Lambert (#4), Matt Street (#9), Tim Henry (#6), Josh Myers (#29), Adam Laird (#10), Patrick Wingfield (#18), Tom Hagan (#15), Alex Smith (#33), Scott Morganthaler (#30) and Kevin Zdancewicz (#27). The Blue Team will consist of: Mike Ballard (#18), Anthony Martinez (#40), Pat McAnaney (#19), Matt Bernstein (#3), Ryan Ouellette (#32), Michael Schwimer (#14), Mike Campagna (#12), Joe Florio (#7), Brandon Guyer (#20), Jordan Ellis (#25), Adam Ventre (#39), Allie Swanson (#27) and Casey Conlon (#1).

All three games of the Orange vs. Blue World Series will be seven (7) inning contests. The series will be a best of 2-out-of-3 game championship, however, if one team loses the first two games, they may still win the championship by winning the final game by more runs than the sum of the run differential of the first two contests. If Game 3 is rained out and the first two games are split, run differential will determine which of the two teams wins the championship. Each team is encouraged to score as many runs as possible.

The Blue Team will be designated as the home team for Game 1 and 3 and the home team will occupy the third base dugout. The squads will play with an 8 man line-up and no pitcher may pitch more than five innings nor throw more than 100 pitches. A pitcher can only throw in two games.
