CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Orange Tea m posted a 3-0 shutout victory over the Blue Team in Game 3 of the University of Virginia baseball team’s second annual Orange vs. Blue World Series. The Orange team plated three runs on six hits and posted its second shutout victory of the series with another impressive pitching display on the mound. The Orange team allowed just one run in the three games of the Orange vs. Blue World Series en route to the series title after winning Game 1 (6-0) and Game 2 (5-1) before claiming the third contest 3-0.

After playing five scoreless innings of baseball, the Orange Team plated two runs in the sixth inning to take a 2-0 lead when Ryan Zimmerman (1-for-4) and Tom Hagan (1-for-4) both reached base on a hit before scoring a run. Zimmerman led off the side with a double before Hagan drove him in with a RBI-single in the Orange Team’s next at-bat. Hagan then scored a run himself three batters later on a RBI-single by Kyle Werman (1-for-2) to give their team a two-run lead.

The Orange Team tacked on a third run in the seventh inning to take a 3-0 lead when Matt Street reached base on an error before stealing two bases (second and third), then scored a run on an Blue Team error. That would be all the scoring the Orange Team would need thanks to the outstanding pitching it received tonight and throughout the series. Winning pitcher Sean Doolittle went 5.0 scoreless innings on the mound and scattered just three hits while striking out three batters. Doolittle also finished 2-for-4 at the plate himself. Adam Laird and Robert Poutier each tossed a scoreless inning in relief to seal the victory for the Orange Team.

The Blue Team managed four hits in the contest after Ryan Ouellette (1-for-1), Mike Campagna (1-for-2), Matt Bernstein (1-for-3) and Tim Henry (1-for-4) all recorded a hit. The Blue Team also received a superb pitching effort from starter Michael Schwimer who threw a one-hitter through 5.0 innings of play and also struck out three batters. However, the Blue Team’s bullpen and offense was unable to overcome the Orange Team in the end and dropped the final contest of the series.
