CHARLOTTESVILLE – Two players have joined the University of Virginia men’s basketball team as walk-ons. The players are 6-5 sophomore forward Mike Forkin of Centreville, Va., and 6-0 sophomore guard Tryshan Ravenell of Charlottesville, Va. They were selected to join the team after tryouts earlier this month.
Forkin lettered twice in basketball at Westfield High School and earned second-team All-District honors as a senior.
Ravenell lettered twice as a point guard at William Monroe High School (Stanardsville, Va.). He earned first-team All-District and second-team All-Central Virginia honors as a senior. Ravenell also played football and participated in track and field at William Monroe.
Virginia has exhibition games scheduled at University Hall with Lehman College (Nov. 5, 7:30 p.m.) and Marymount University (Nov. 12, 7:30 p.m.) before opening the 2004-05 regular season with a home game against Robert Morris University on November 19 (7:30 p.m.).
