Women’s Tennis Team, Individuals Earn Preseason Rankings

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s tennis team received a No. 55 ranking from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Tuesday as the organization announced its preseason rankings. The Cavaliers also had one singles player and one doubles team earn preseason rankings.

The Cavaliers’ No. 55 team ranking is up eight spots from their final 2004 ranking.

First year Diana Srebrovic (Oakville, Ont.) earned a preseason No. 67 singles ranking. She posted a 12-4 singles record during the fall, including two wins over ranked players. Srebrovic and third-year Douglas Wink (Greensboro, N.C.) are No. 23 in the preseason doubles rankings, after posting an 8-1 record during the fall.

The Cavaliers open the 2005 season this weekend as they travel to Nashville, Tenn. On Saturday, Virginia will play Michigan State at Vanderbilt’s Currey Tennis Center. On Sunday, the Cavaliers will play the No. 6 ranked Commodores, also at the Currey Tennis Center.
