HAMPTON, Va. – The University of Virginia wrestling team dropped a 27-12 decision to the North Dakota State Bison in a non-conference dual match as part of the 25th Annual Virginia Duals at the Hampton Coliseum. The Cavaliers won four of ten bouts against the Bison with Aaron Martin (141), Paul Bjorlo (157), Will Durkee (165) and Rocco Caponi (174) picking up wins for Virginia.
The loss was UVa’s third of the day. The Cavaliers also suffered an 18-15 setback to the Ohio Bobcats in their first match of the event before falling 25-9 to the North Carolina Tar Heels in their second match of the day. Virginia’s loss to NDSU gave UVa an 0-3 record in the the 25th Annual Virginia Duals. With the three losses, UVa’s record falls to 3-5 overall on the season.
Virginia will return to action on Friday, January 21st when UVa travels to Chapel Hill, N.C. to face the Tar Heels again, this time in an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) dual match. The dual is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM and will be held at UNC’s Carmichael Auditorium.
UVa was one of 16 schools competing in the National College Tournament at the 25th Annual Virginia Duals. The event is a double-elimination tournament in a dual match format. The tournament field consists of: American, Cal-State Bakersfield, #19 Edinboro, Indiana, Lock Haven, Old Dominion, North Dakota State, Rider, The Citadel, Buffalo, #12 Missouri, #6 Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee-Chattanooga and Virginia.
