Green Bay, Wis. – Former University of Virginia quarterback Don Majkowski will be inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame at the 35th Hall of Fame Induction Banquet, to be held the evening of July 23, 2005, in the Lambeau Field Atrium. Majkowski will be inducted along with running back Edgar Bennett, who played in Green Bay from 1992-96.
Majkowski joined the Packers as a 10th-round draft pick in 1987 and finished his Packers career in fifth place with 10,870 passing yards on 889 completions in 1,607 attempts, with 56 touchdowns and 56 interceptions. An elusive and effective runner, he also notched nine rushing touchdowns during his six-year Green Bay career.
Nicknamed “Majik Man,” he performed magic during a rousing 1989 campaign that saw the Packers win 10 games, the most in 17 years, including a team-record four contests by one point. Majkowski’s performance that season, which included 4,318 yards, six 300-yard games and 27 TDs, earned him Pro Bowl recognition.
A three-year starter at UVa, he guided the Cavaliers to the first bowl game in school history–a 27-24 win in the 1984 Peach Bowl. He completed his career in 1986 as the second-leading passer in school history with 3901 yards, 22 touchdowns and 286 completions. He was UVa’s leading passer in 1984, ’85, and ’86.
Majkowski is the second Cavalier inducted in the Packers Hall of Fame. Henry Jordan, a three-sport standout at UVa in the mid-50s and a member of the great Vince Lombardi-coached Packer teams of the 1960s, was inducted in 1975.
