Cavalier Men’s Tennis Hosts Old Dominion in Season Opener

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s tennis team opens the 2005 dual match season on Wednesday night as they host Old Dominion at the Boar’s Head Sports Club at 6:30 p.m. The Cavaliers open the season ranked No. 10 in the nation, while the No. 59 ranked Monarchs are 2-0 after posting wins over Norfolk State and George Washington.

For the first time in history, the Cavaliers open a season in the top ten. Highlighting the roster is a school record five players with a national singles ranking. Third-year Doug Stewart (Malibu, Calif,) is ranked No. 19, first-year Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) is No. 22, third-year Rylan Rizza (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) is No. 36, second-year Marko Miklo (Bratislava, Slovakia) is No. 63, and first-year Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) is No. 104. The doubles of team of Rizza and Nick Meythaler (Owensboro, Ky.) is ranked No. 19 nationally.

The Cavaliers continue their season-opening five match homestand at the Boar’s Head Sports Club on Saturday, as they host No. 44 Minnesota at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free to all regular season Virginia tennis matches.
