`HOOS UP NEXT?: The Virginia Cavaliers (31-15, 10-12 ACC) will host the Richmond Spiders (15-23, 8-7 A-10) in a non-conference game on Tuesday, May 3rd at 7:00 PM at Davenport Field at the UVa Baseball Stadium. Virginia’s game with Richmond is the Cavaliers’ final regular season non-conference home game this season and is also UVa’s next to last regular season non-conference contest this year. Virginia has just one non-conference regular season road game remaining on its schedule (May 17 @ James Madison) and has two home ACC series with Miami (May 13-15) and Duke (May 19-21) before beginning play in the 2005 ACC Tournament (May 24-29).
FOURTH TIME IS A CHARM?: Virginia and Richmond will try to play for the first time this year after three earlier attempts failed already this season. UVa and UR were first originally scheduled to play on Tuesday, March 1st at 2:30 PM at Pitt Field in Richmond, Va. However, due to inclement weather in the Richmond area, the Cavaliers and Spiders rescheduled the contest for Wednesday, March 2nd at 2:30 PM in Richmond. But that game was eventually rescheduled as well due to poor field conditions and was to be made up on Tuesday, May 3rd at 3:00 PM. Meanwhile, Virginia and Richmond were also scheduled to play on Wednesday, March 23rd at 7:00 PM – this time in Charlottesville – but that game was also cancelled due to weather and field conditions. Finally, the two teams agreed on a new make-up date for a single game to be played between the two schools on Tuesday, May 3rd at 7:00 PM in Charlottesville. The previous contest rescheduled for May 3rd at 3:00 PM in Richmond between the Cavaliers and Spiders will no longer be played.
LAST TIME THEY MET: Virginia defeated Richmond 14-6 on March 2, 2004 in Richmond, Va. at the Spiders’ Pitt Field the last time the two schools met. The Cavaliers also defeated the Spiders 11-4 the last time Richmond played in Charlottesville on April 1, 2003. Since the 2000 season, Virginia and Richmond have split the ten games played between the two school in the series (5-5). Here is a look at the UVa/UR series since 2000:
