CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia baseball player Kyle Werman (Vienna, Va./James Madison) was named to the 2005 Academic All-District III University Division Baseball squad as a Second Team selection. The team is part of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Werman’s award marks the second time he has been honored for his academic achievements in his UVa career. In 2003, he was also named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District Baseball Team as a Second Team selection.
Aside from carrying one of the top grade point averages on the team, Werman has been a four-year starter for the Cavaliers and has developed a reputation as a sure-handed second baseman. Known for his ability to turn a double play, Werman has been an integral part of Virginia’s success over the past four years. This season, Werman has started 46 of the 47 games he has appeared in and has turned in a .262 batting average after recording 37 hits, 27 runs and 17 RBI. Five of his hits were doubles and three hits were triples. Werman also leads the team with 12 sacrifice hits. He has posted a .992 fielding percentage and has stolen four bases.
