Virginia Volleyball Recruit Shannon Davis Named MVP Of Junior Nationals

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Incoming University of Virginia first-year volleyball player Shannon Davis (Austin, Texas/Westlake) was named the MVP of the Girls 18 National Division of the 2005 USA Junior Olympic Volleyball Championships, which concluded on July 6 in Salt Lake City. Davis, who plays middle, led the Austin Juniors 18 Mizuno team to the gold medal of the Girls 18 National Division.
The Davis-led Austin Juniors defeated Toledo Volleyball Club’s 18-Turski team 25-14, 25-14 to win the gold medal. The Austin Juniors also defeated teams from Illinois and Washington during the final day of competition to win the title. Austin registered a perfect 10-0 record in capturing the top spot.
The Cavaliers’ other incoming first-year, Marlow Bruneau (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville), also competed at the Girls 18 National Division at Junior Nationals. Bruneau, a setter, helped lead her team, Mizuno M-1 18-1, to a ninth-place finish with a 9-1 record.
Forty eight teams from across the nation competed in the Girls 18 National Division of the 2005 USA Junior Olympic Volleyball Championships.
