WASHINGTON, D.C. – University of Virginia men’s tennis player Jarrett Chirico (Sarasota, Fla.) won the singles championship last week at the ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit East Region tournament at Georgetown University. It was the second summer circuit title of the year for Chirico, who won the event at Bloomsburg University two weeks earlier.
Chirico, the tournament’s top seed won all six of his matches in straight sets. He lost just six games in five matches to reach the final. In the final, he defeated second-seeded Andre Iriarte of NC State 6-4, 7-6 to capture the title. Chirico teamed with Iriarte in doubles and the duo reached the finals.
The ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit is made up of six regional circuits (East, Southeast, Midwest, Central, Southwest and West) for collegiate. Each region consists of four consecutive tournaments played during the month of July before a national tournament held in August. Each tournament consists of a men’s singles and doubles and women’s singles and doubles draw.
