HANAHAN, S.C. – The Virginia women’s golf team finished fifth at the College of Charleston’s Cougar Classic on Monday.
Tennessee captured the team title with a 870 (+6), while Georgia was second with a 872 (+8). The Cavaliers shot a 295 in the final round for a 886 (+22) total.
Tennessee’s Marci Turner took home medalist honors with a four-under 212 after firing a five-under 67 in the final round. Georgia’s Whitney Wade finished second with a 215 (-1), and Virginia junior Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) tied for third with a 217 (+1).
Sophomore Lauren Mielbrecht (Gulf Stream, Fla.) tied for sixth with a 218 (+2). Defending Cougar Classic medalist and junior Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.) tied for 25th with a 224 (+8). Freshman Carly Truitt (Marysville, Ohio) finished 54th in her first collegiate competition with a 231 (+15). Junior Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.V.) followed by one stroke with a 232 (+6).
Virginia will compete in the Lady Tar Heel Invitational on Oct. 7-9 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
