NORFOLK, Va. – The No. 4 ranked University of Virginia men’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to No. 18 Old Dominion 3-0 Wednesday night at the ODU Soccer Complex. The Cavaliers fall to 4-1-1 on the season with the loss, while the Monarchs improve to 4-1-1.
Virginia had entered the game as the only remaining team in the nation that hadn’t allowed a goal this season. The shutout streak ended in the 25th minute when Brian Cvilikas scored on an assist from David Horst. The Monarchs held that 1-0 lead at halftime. In the second half, Old Dominion added a second goal in the 57th minute as Edson Elcock scored on an assist from Ado Fazlic. Cvilikas closed out the scoring in the 87th minute when he scored his second goal of the game on an assist from goalkeeper John Connelly.
Overall, Old Dominion outshot the Cavaliers 12-7 in the game, while UVa had a 7-1 corner kick advantage. Ryan Burke (Cumberland Foreside, Maine) made three saves in net for Virginia, while Connelly didn’t need to make a save to record the shutout for Old Dominion.
Virginia will return to ACC action on Saturday, as the Cavaliers visit conference newcomer Boston College.
