Sept. 27, 2005

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia plays its first interdivisional conference matchup with a road game at Maryland on Saturday. The game is slated to start at noon and will be televised on the JP/ACC football network.

The Cavaliers are off to a 3-0 start, the second year in a row they’ve started with at least three wins. They no doubt hope recent history repeats itself. Every year since 1940 that they have started 3-0 they have won game four (11 occurrences).

They opened ACC play with a 38-7 win over Coastal Division foe Duke on Saturday. Marques Hagans threw three touchdown passes in the second half to break open a contest that Virginia led just 10-0 at halftime.

Maryland is 2-2 this season (1-1 in the ACC), and is looking for its first home win of the season. The Terrapins have been locked up in a series of tight contests this season; three of their four games have been decided by 10 points or less.

This is also Maryland’s Homecoming game, the first time Virginia has been the Homecoming opponent since 1973. Maryland is 3-2-1 against UVa on Homecoming.
