Virginia Stands Sixth at Lady Tar Heel Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-The Virginia women’s golf team stands sixth after the second day at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational on Saturday.

Duke will start the final round with a six-stroke advantage with a 582 (+6), while Auburn stands closeby with a 586 (+10). Positioned in third is Vanderbilt,with a 591 (+15) and Wake Forest with a 595 (+19). Additionally, Texas A&M pulled ahead to fifth with a 598 (+22), while the Cavaliers stand at sixth with a 603 (+27) overall.

Cavalier junior Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.), continued playing strong today, with an even 144 (E) to tie for fouth. Texas A&M’s Ashley Knoll fired an eight-under 136 to hold a five stroke edge at first place overall.

Sophomore Lauren Mielbrecht (Gulf Stream, Fla.) stands in an eight way tie for ninth with a 148 (+4). Additionally, freshman Carly Truitt (Marysville, Ohio) shot a 152 (+8) to tie for 29th, while junior Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.) shot a 159 (+15) and junior Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.Va.) shot a 168 (+24) in the second round.

The final round of the Lady Tar Heel Invitational tees off at 9am on Sunday, October 9, 2005.
