Oct. 11, 2005

Virginia returns home Saturday to host fourth-ranked Florida State at 7:45 p.m. This game begins an important stretch of the season when the Cavaliers play three of four games at home.

They have lost their last two contests–both road games–to Maryland and Boston College the last two weeks. They have not lost three in a row since 2001, Al Groh’s first year at UVa.

This is Virginia’s third consecutive game against the Atlantic Division of the ACC before embarking on four straight games against Coastal Division rivals to close the season (with a non-conference game vs. Temple mixed in).

Quarterback Marques Hagans has established some sort of statistical career high in every game this season. Last week against Boston College it was attempts (35) and completions (21). Over his last six games he is averaging 245.7 yards per game in total offense and has accounted for 13 touchdowns. He is also ranked 15th in ACC history career passing efficiency (134.73).

Virginia’s 1995 ACC Championship team that defeated FSU 33-28 will be honored at halftime.

Florida State comes to Charlottesville with a perfect 5-0 record and a No. 4 rank this week. This is the seventh time in series history that the Seminoles have been undefeated when playing Virginia (1993, `95, `96, `97, `99, 2002, `05). This is also the fourth time they have traveled north with an undefeated record, but the first time since 1999 when they were 8-0. FSU has come to UVa undefeated in 1995, 1997, 1999 and this year.

This is the 13th time in series history Florida State has been ranked in the top seven and the fourth time in a row.
