THE MATCH-UP: No. 4 Virginia looks to remain undefeated in Atlantic Coast Conference play when the Cavaliers host #10 Duke. Virginia is coming off a 2-1 nonconference win over St. Francis (NY) Wednesday, First-year forward Yannick Reyering added his ninth goal of the season in the win. Reyering continues to lead the team with 19 points. Third-year forward Adam Cristman has 17 points including seven goals. Jeremy Barlow added two assists in the win over the Terriers and leads the Cavaliers with seven assists. Third-year goalkeeper Ryan Burke has posted a 0.71 goals against average and continues to lead the conference with eight shutouts. As a team, the Cavaliers are averaging 1.98 goals per game and 15.1 shots. Duke is led by Chris Loftus, who has scored eight goals on the season and tallied 17 points. Eight different Blue Devils have scored goals.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE CAVALIERS: First-year forward Yannick Reyering (Mettingen, Germany) and third-year midfielder Ian Holder (Norfolk, Va.) each scored a goal and second-year midfielder Jeremy Barlow addded two assists as No. 4 Virginia topped St. Francis (NY), 2-1, Wednesday evening at Klöckner Stadium in nonconference men’s soccer action. The Cavaliers (9-1-2) remained undefeated at home while the Terriers fell to 3-5-2. Virginia held St. Francis scoreless in the second half. The Cavaliers outshot the Terriers 13-1 in the second half and 23-4 in the game. UVA held a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks. Ryan Burke (Cumberland Foreside, Maine) picked up his ninth win in goal for UVA. Rosario Candela recorded five saves in goal for St. Francis.

ABOUT DUKE: The Blue Devils (8-1-2, 2-1-1 ACC) are currently fourth in the ACC after falling to Maryland last week. Duke defeated Western Illinois, 2-0, in its last outing Tuesday night. Zach Pope got credit for his second game-winning goal of the year when he beat the defense to a long ball put in to the Leathernecks’ zone by Tim Jepson. The goal was the third of the year for Pope. Duke leads the ACC in several statistical categories. They are first with 17.5 shots per game, 9.4 points per game, 2.6 goals per game, and 4.2 assists per game.

THE SERIES AGAINST DUKE: Virginia and Duke have met 74 times on the soccer field. The Cavaliers lead the series with the Blue Devils, 35-32-7. The teams met three times last season with Virginia winning the first meeting, 3-2 in overtime in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers knocked the Blue Devils out of the ACC Tournament with a 3-1 win. Duke defeated Virginia, 3-0, in Charlottesville in the NCAA Quarterfinals to advance to the NCAA College Cup.

IN THE RANKINGS: The Cavaliers are ranked No. 7 by the NSCAA, No. 4 by Soccer America, No. 7 by College Soccer News, and No. 3 by Soccer Times in the current national rankings. The Blue Devils are ranked eighth in the College Soccer News Top-30, ninth by Soccer Times and 10th in the Soccer America Top-25. The Blue Devils fell from No. 8 to No. 15 in the NSCAA/adidas National Poll.

HIGH RANKINGS: The Cavaliers’ No. 4 ranking in the current Soccer America poll marks the 20th consecutive week Virginia has been ranked in the poll. Only four schools (Indiana, Santa Clara, UCLA, UC-Santa Barbara) have longer current streaks.
