Sean Singletary And J.R. Reynolds Earn All-ACC Honors

CHARLOTESVILLE – University of Virginia sophomore guard Sean Singletary (Philadelphia, Pa.) is a first-team selection to the 2006 All-Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball team and junior guard J.R. Reynolds (Roanoke, Va.) is a third-team selection. Singletary is the first Virginia men’s basketball player to earn first-team All-ACC honors since Bryant Stith earned the last of his three consecutive first-team All-Conference honors in 1992.

Singletary leads the Cavaliers in scoring (462, 17.8 ppg.), assists (112, 4.3 apg.), steals (46, 1.77 spg.) and average minutes played a game (873, 33.6 mpg.). He ranks fourth in the ACC in assists and free throw percentage (.832, 109-131), fifth in scoring, eighth in minutes played and ninth in steals.

Singletary has scored in double figures 23 times and has scored 20 or more points 10 times. He was named the ACC Player of the Week after scoring a career-high 35 points against Gonzaga (Dec. 17). He also had six rebounds, six steals and four assists in that game.

“Sean Singletary has proven himself worthy of being a first-team All-ACC player,” said UVa head coach Dave Leitao. “In our first year together, he has meant so much to us on the court, but more importantly off the court. We look for even better days ahead for Sean and our team.”

Reynolds is averaging 16.9 points, 3.2 assists and 3.1 rebounds a game. He ranks eighth in the ACC in free throw percentage (.796. 109-137) and scoring.

Reynolds has scored in double figures in each of the last 21 games, which ties for the third longest streak in the ACC, and he has scored at least 20 points in seven games this season. He scored the 1,000th point of his career in a game against North Carolina on March 1 and currently has 1,040 career points.

He leads the team in three-point field goals made this season (56) and ranks seventh on Virginia’s career list in that department with 155.

“I’m very pleased that J.R. Reynolds has been recognized as a third-team All-ACC performer,” Leitao said. “His hard work, dedication and leadership gave him and our team many great nights this season.”

Singletary and Reynolds are co-captains of the 2005-06 Virginia team.

Also named to the All-ACC first team were Tyler Hansbrough (North Carolina), J.J. Redick (Duke), Shelden Williams (Duke) and Craig Smith (Boston College). Named to the All-ACC second team were Al Thornton (Florida State), Guillermo Diaz (Miami), Justin Gray (Wake Forest), Jared Dudley (Boston College) and David Noel (North Carolina). Joining Reynolds on the All-ACC third team were Eric Williams (Wake Forest), Cameron Bennerman (NC State), Robert Hite (Miami), Nik Caner-Medley (Maryland) and Reyshawn Terry (North Carolina).
