Charlottesville, VA – The Virginia athletics department is teaming with the Charlottesville City and Albemarle County Elementary Schools to promote the Virginia Spring Football Festival and raise funds for education in the Charlottesville area.

Through the inaugural Elementary School Attendance Challenge, the local elementary school that has the highest participation at the April 22 Spring Football Festival will receive $1000 from the Cavalier athletics department for its general fund. Anyone associated with one of the schools can register during the Fan Fest in the name of the school. All seven Charlottesville city and 16 Albemarle county elementary schools are eligible for the program. In order to make the challenge equitable, each school’s current enrollment will be taken into account, so all of the schools have the same opportunity to win. Admission to the event is free.

To help promote the program, members of the Virginia football program and Cav Man will make appearances at the local schools between April 13 and 17. Those dates are:

Thursday April 13
1:30 P.M.
Greer Elementary

Friday April 14
1:30 P.M.
Broadus Wood Elementary

Monday April 17
12:30 P.M.
Brownsville Elementary

The 2006 Virginia Spring Football Festival features a great deal of family-focused activities, starting at 1:30 p.m. with Fan Fest inside the North Gate of Scott Stadium.

Fan Fest will have a variety of interactive games and activities for kids, including the Cavalier Moon Bounce, other inflatables, a football toss contest, a gyrosphere, a uniform and picture area, face painting, and balloon artists. In addition, there will be performances by the UVA Marching Band and cheerleaders, autograph sessions featuring former Virginia football players, live music, and a food court.

On the playing field at the same time will be a professional football style combine that will allow all fans to test their abilities in a number of interactive skill events. The spring football game will start at 3:30 pm. After the game, the 2006 Virginia football players will be available to sign autographs.
