Two Cavalier Rowers Earn All-America Honors

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Two members of the University of Virginia women’s rowing team have been honored with All-America honors from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.

Junior Heather Gardner (Flintstone, Ga.) earned first-team recognition. A three-time ACC champion, Gardner was a member of the second varsity 8 crew that won the 2005 NCAA Championship. She was also a first-team All-South Region honoree in 2006.

Junior Melanie Kok (Catharines, Ontario) was named a second-team All-American. Also a 2006 first-team All-South Region and All-ACC honoree, Kok helped the varsity eight to the 2006 ACC championship.

The awards, presented by Pocock, recognize the outstanding accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains for the spring season. Forty-two student-athletes were honored, 20 first-team selections and 22 second-team selections. Nine schools had multiple selections, led by Princeton and California with four apiece. Brown and Notre Dame each had three All-America selections (first or second team).
