Sacramento, CA–Virginia’s Erin Crawford, the school record holder in the 400 intermediate hurdles, advanced to the semifinals of that event at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento today, running a 57.36 and finishing second in her heat. Crawford joins ACC Champion Billie Jo Grant, who also advanced in the discus competition yesterday, as part of the Cavalier contingent to move on in the meet.
Crawford finished just behind Markita James of Auburn, who ran a 57.21 to win the heat. Crawford’s time was the eighth-fastest time of the day; Dominque Darden of Miami led all competitors with a 56.56, just .8 ahead of Crawford. Crawford had the second-fastest time among ACC athletes and was one of only thee conference athletes to advance. She will next run in the semifinals on Friday (June 9) at 6:10 PT.
Grant, whose discus throw of 166′ 2″ yesterday places her seventh heading into the finals, finished tenth in her flight in the shot put with a 49′ 11″ (15.21m). She finished 20th overall in that event. She will compete at 3:45 on Friday (June 9) in the discus finals.
