CHARLOTTESVILLE – Two members of the Virginia women’s soccer team were named to the final roster for the United States for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Championship being held August 17-September 3 in Russia. Jess Rostedt (Kent, Ohio) and Nikki Krzysik (Clifton, N.J.) will be making their second appearance in the tournament as both played for the U.S. in the 2004 tournament in Thailand.
Both players have spent the entire semester in residency with the team, which played international matches, including World Championship qualifying, along with exhibitions against collegiate teams this spring. Rostedt led the team in scoring this spring with 20 goals in all matches. Krzysik served as the team’s captain during the CONCACAF qualifying tournament in Mexico in January.
Rostedt was the 2005 ACC Freshman of the Year after leading the Cavaliers in scoring with 12 goals and 29 points this year. She was a first team All-Mid Atlantic Region selection and a second team All-ACC honoree. Krzysik was named to the 2005 ACC All-Freshman Team after starting all 25 games as a defender for the Cavaliers. She was third on the team with 2,130 minutes played this season while also contributing one assist.
The U-20 team is currently training at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
In addition, two former Cavaliers, Sarah Huffman (Flower Mound, Texas) and Noelle Keselica (Gaithersburg, Md.) are currently in residency with the U-21 National Team. That team is preparing for the Nordic Cup next month in Norway, which annually is the world’s top U-21 competition.
