2006 Schedule

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia men’s soccer head coach George Gelnovatch has announced the 2006 UVa men’s soccer schedule. Virginia’s 2006 schedule features 17 regular season games and at least one contest in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship. UVa will play 10 games against 2005 NCAA Tournament participants as well as face nine teams that ranked in the top 25 of major college soccer polls. The Cavaliers will play 14 contests at home including one exhibition match and four games on the road.

Virginia will prepare for its 2006 regular season by hosting VCU in an exhibition match at Klockner Stadium. The Cavaliers open up their regular season when UVa hosts the Virginia Soccer Classic (Aug. 25-Aug. 27). UVa welcomes Akron, UC Santa Barbara and Davidson to Charlottesville. The Cavaliers will play Davidson in the season opener before wrapping up the tournament with a game against UC Santa Barbara. Akron and UC Santa Barbara will open the tournament. Davidson and Akron plays on the final day of the classic.

Virginia continues its four-game homestand when the Cavaliers host George Mason (Sept. 1) and UCLA (Sept. 3). The first road game and first ACC match is a trip to Raleigh, N.C. to face NC State (Sept. 9).

The Cavaliers will host ACC matches against Boston College (Sept. 15), Clemson (Sept. 30), 2005 NCAA Champion Maryland (Oct. 11) and Wake Forest (Oct. 27). Virginia hits the road for conference matches at North Carolina (Sept. 22), Duke (Oct. 6) and Virginia Tech (Oct. 20)

Other nonconference matches are scheduled at home against St. Francis, (N.Y.) (Sept. 12), West Virginia (Sept. 19), American (Sept. 27), Liberty (Oct. 3) and Longwood (Oct. 17).

The 2006 ACC Championships will be held at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, Md., Nov. 1-5.

The NCAA Tournament and the road to the 2006 College Cup begins with first round action Nov. 10-11. The second round takes place on Nov. 15. The third round will be played Nov. 18-19. The NCAA Quarterfinals are slated for Nov. 24-26. The College Cup will be held Dec. 1-3 in St. Louis, Mo. at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.

The Cavaliers are coming off a 2005 season which saw UVa finish 12-5-3 and second in the ACC during the regular season with a 6-2 mark. Virginia finished the season ranked as high as No. 10 in college soccer polls.
