Virginia Hosts Western Michigan Saturday
Virginia looks to win its second game in a row this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. with a Homecoming contest against the Western Michigan Broncos at the Carl Smith Center, home of David A. Harrison III Field at Scott Stadium. The game is available via webcast on ESPN360.com.
The Cavaliers gained their first win of the season–also the first overtime win in school history–last Saturday with a 13-12 win at home over Wyoming. Junior quarterback Kevin McCabe came off the bench in relief of starter Christian Olsen and fired a 25-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Ogletree on the first play of the extra session. Chris Gould converted the extra point in what proved to be the winning point after the Cowboys missed their extra point following their touchdown shortly thereafter.
Virginia has feasted on the opposition at home, winning 16 of 19 home games in the last four seasons, one of the best records in the nation in that span.
Like Wyoming last week, Western Michigan travels to Charlottesville following an impressive victory. The Broncos gained a resounding 31-10 victory at home Saturday night over Toledo. They scored 24 second half points to erase a 10-7 halftime deficit and win. Mark Bonds rushed for 134 yards and one touchdown, while quarterback Thomas Peregrin was efficient in his first career start by completing 11 of 15 passes for 98 yards and two scores.
It’s Homecoming
Western Michigan is Virginia’s opponent this season in its annual Homecoming game. Overall, UVa has won 14 of its last 15 Homecoming games, including five straight.
This is the third time in five years the Cavaliers have played a Mid-American Conference opponent on Homecoming. The Cavaliers have made returning alums happy on Homecoming with wins in all three games vs. MAC schools.
Virginia is three games above .500 all-time on Homecoming with a 41-38-2 (.519) record through the years.
