Mohammed & Nigeria Conclude Play with 66-64 Loss to Senegal

SAO PAULO, Brazil – Virginia women’s basketball junior Aisha Mohammed (Lagos, Nigeria) and Nigeria finished 16th at the 2006 FIBA World Championship for Women on Sunday as the Lady Tigers fell to Senegal, 66-64.

The forward came off the bench for two points and two rebounds in the team’s final game. Teammate Mfon Sunday Udoka paced the Lady Tigers with 17 points, followed by Enjoli Izidor with 15 points.

In Saturday’s 81-77 loss to the Chinese Taipei, Mohammed made her second start and grabbed six rebounds.

“Nigeria made us very nervous. It was a physical game. The Nigerians are very strong,” said Chinese Taipei head coach Ling-Yao Lin Hung. “We could not play a technical game, we struggled a lot and ran, we had to follow their pace. But we are very happy with the victory.”
