TODAY’S GAME
The Cavaliers open up the Atlantic Coast Conference season on Thursday as they host Wake Forest. The game is the conference opener for both teams. The game is a matchup of two ranked teams, as the Cavaliers are No. 16 and the Demon Deacons No. 14 in the latest Soccer America rankings.

ABOUT THE CAVALIERS
Virginia enters the game with a 5-2-1 record following a 1-1 tie at No. 6 West Virginia on Sunday. The Cavaliers are led in scoring by Sarah Curtis, who has four goals and an assist for nine points. Christina de Vries has posted three shutouts this season and has a 0.40 goals against average.

ABOUT THE DEMON DEACONS
Wake Forest enters the game undefeated with an 8-1-0 record and is riding an eight-game winning streak after a season opening loss at Santa Clara. The Demon Deacons are led in scoring by Megan Upchurch, Elizabeth Remy and Allie Sadow, all of whom have five goals.

VIRGINIA-WAKE FOREST SERIES
Thursday’s game is the 14th all-time meeting between the schools with Virginia holding a 9-3-1 advantage in the series. The Cavaliers hold a 3-1-1 edge in the matchups played at Klockner Stadium. Virginia has won the last two meetings, both of which came last year. The Cavaliers scored a 1-0 win in last year’s ACC opener in Winston-Salem and a 2-1 victory when the teams met in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament in Cary, N.C.

ACC OPENERS
The Cavaliers enter today’s game with an 11-7-1 record all-time in conference openers, including a 4-2-0 record under Steve Swanson. Virginia has won its last three conference openers, including a 1-0 win at Wake Forest in last year’s ACC opener.

SPREADING THE WEALTH
Of the 20 goals scored by the Cavaliers this season, the team has nine different goal scorers. Among those nine players, six have found the back of the net multiple times. In addition, Virginia has 12 players record a point this season, all of whom have at least two points.
