CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s tennis program signed three players to National Letters of Intent during the fall signing period. Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.), Jason Jung (Torrance, Calif.), and Douglas Perrin (Atlanta, Ga.) all signed their intent to join the Cavalier program.

“We very much look forward to working with each of these young men to develop their tennis,” head coach Brian Boland said. “These three players not only have tremendous potential as players, but they also are great people who we look forward to having lead our program for years to come.”

Barrick is listed as the nation’s No. 8 recruit by tennisrecruiting.net. Earlier this year, he won the USTA Spring National Championship, while also finishing as the doubles runner-up at the event. He is currently ranked No. 1 in the USTA Boys 18’s national rankings. Off the court he was honored with several national tournament sportsmanship awards, including the Bobby Kaplan 16 Sportsmanship Award from the Kalamazoo Super Nationals, a National Open in Pittsburgh, the Boys 16’s Intersectional competition in Shreveport, and the Gateway Invitational Boys 18’s in St. Louis.

“Houston was one of the top recruits in the country this year and we are very excited that he made the decision to become a Cavalier,” Boland said. “He is undoubtedly an excellent player, but an even better person who will represent our team and University in a first class manner. I expect Houston to take an immediate leadership role within our team and am very excited to see how high his tennis can grow.”

Jung is listed as the nation’s No. 4 recruit by tennisrecruiting.net. This past summer, he won the singles title at the US Junior International Hard Court championship. He has also won ITF events in China and Hong Kong. He is currently ranked No. 14 in the USTA Boys 18’s national rankings and No. 54 in the current ITF world junior rankings.

“We have been impressed with Jason’s talent since we first saw him play and are extremely excited that he has decided to play his college tennis at the University of Virginia,” Boland said. “Jason has high aspirations for the future of his tennis and we expect that he will have an immediate impact on our team as well as in college tennis.”

Perrin is another strong pickup for the Cavaliers, having been ranked in the top 20 in the Southern region in Boys 18’s and inside the top 50 nationally in Boys 16’s. He was also a doubles quarterfinalist at both the Easter Bowl and National Clay Courts. Perrin comes from a strong tennis family, with his brother Chuck having played No. 1 singles for Northwestern.

“We are very pleased and excited to have Douglas sign with us,” Boland said. “He is an outstanding individual, student and player. Douglas has a strong work ethic and a lot of potential and we look forward to him having a major impact in our program”
