CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Postgame Notes – Virginia vs. UNC Asheville (Nov. 22, 2006)
For the third consecutive game, Virginia scored first. Mamadi Diane opened the game with a conventional three-point play. The Cavaliers made three-point baskets to begin the Arizona (Nov. 12) and Morgan State (Nov.19) contests.
UNC Asheville’s Kenny George made his first collegiate appearance for the Bulldogs. He scored UNC Asheville’s first two points tonight. In 15 minutes, George tallied four points, two rebounds and five blocked shots.
J.R. Reynolds’ first three-point basket moved him into sole possession of fourth place on UVa’s career three-point field goals list with 162. He was tied with Devin Smith (2003-05) at 161. Reynolds made two threes in the game and has now made 163 career threes. John Crotty (1988-91) is third with 179 three-pointers.
Adrian Joseph scored a season-high 14 points tonight.
Jason Cain reached double figures in rebounds (10) for the second time this season.
Sean Singletary tied his career best with a 12-12 effort from the free throw line (UNC in the 2006 ACC Tournament) and is now 27-28 (.964) from the line on the season.
Singletary had seven assists and has had six or more assists in all three games this season.
Jerome Meyinsse had a career-high six rebounds.
J.R. Reynolds extended his double-figure scoring streak to 27 games (18 points). It is the second longest double-digit scoring streak in the ACC.
UVa made eight three-pointers in the first half, but only two in the second stanza. UNC Asheville made only two threes in the first half, but drained six in the second.
The Cavaliers were a season-best 19-23 (.826) from the free throw line tonight.
