Greensboro, N.C. – Four University of Virginia football players were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference football team announced Monday, including two members selected to the second team.

Cornerback Marcus Hamilton and defensive end Chris Long were second-team selections, while guard Branden Albert and wide receiver Kevin Ogletree received honorable mention recognition.

Hamilton was named to the second team for the second year in a row. He is the first Cavalier cornerback named to the first or second team in consecutive seasons since Ronde Barber was a first-team selection from 1994-96. Hamilton intercepted five passes this fall and is ranked third in the conference in interceptions. He finished his career with 15 pass interceptions, tied with Barber for third in school history.

Long had a breakout season this year as a junior and proved to be one of the leaders of a very tough Cavalier defense. He finished fourth among ACC defensive linemen in tackling with an average of 4.8 tackles per game. His 57 tackles are a career high. He led the Cavaliers with 12 tackles for loss and 21 quarterback pressures, while also finishing with five sacks.

Just a sophomore this season, Albert started for the second year in a row and is one of the outstanding young offensive linemen in the league. He was the ACC’s Offensive Lineman of the Week for his play in UVa’s 14-7 win over NC State in late October.

Ogletree saw his role expand for the season dramatically when Deyon Williams went down to injury early in training camp. He became the team’s focal part in the passing game and finished the season with 52 receptions for 582 yards and four touchdowns, all team-leading figures. His 52 receptions rank ninth all-time at UVa. He is ranked third in the conference in receiving and seventh in receiving yards.

Virginia completed the 2006 season with a 5-7 overall record and in third place in the ACC’s Coastal Division with a 4-4 league record.
