CHARLOTTESVILLE – Three of the newest members of the Virginia men’s tennis team had standout performances this week at the UVa men’s open at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. Ted Angelinos (Athens, Greece) reached the singles final, while the team of Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Dominic Inglot (London, England) captured the doubles title.
Angelinos won four singles matches on the weekend to reach the final. In the semifinals, he scored a 7-6 (10-8), 6-2 win over No. 2 seed, Henrique Cancado. Cancado, who plays collegiately at Old Dominion, is currently ranked No. 18 in the ITA rankings. Angelinos lost to Old Dominion’s Harel Srugo in the final. Srugo is currently ranked No. 7 in the ITA rankings.
In the doubles final, the team of Barrick and Inglot topped the No. 1 seed of Cancado and Srugo 9-8 (3). Cancado and Srugo open the collegiate season ranked No. 6 in the ITA doubles rankings.
The Cavaliers open the dual match season on January 24 as they visit William & Mary.
