CHARLOTTESVILLE – Evan Marcus is leaving his position as head strength coach and director of the McCue Center Weight Room at Virginia to join the staff of the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL).
Marcus, who was at Virginia for four years, oversaw strength and conditioning activities for all 25 of the Cavaliers’ varsity sports. He worked with the football team and was also instrumental in the initial planning for the dining facility in the John Paul Jones Arena.
“We appreciate Evan’s work with our overall strength and conditioning program and the football team,” said UVa Executive Associate Director of Athletics Jon Oliver. “Evan and his staff have taken the strength and conditioning program to a higher level of excellence and he performed admirably working with our student-athletes. We wish him well as he assumes his new responsibilities with the Atlanta Falcons.
“A national search for a new head strength coach and director of the McCue Center Weight Room begins immediately.”
Marcus came to Virginia following three seasons as the assistant strength and conditioning coach with the New Orleans Saints of the NFL. He has also held assistant strength and conditioning coaching positions at several universities during his professional career, including Louisville (1998-2000), Texas (1995-98), Maryland (1994), Rutgers (1993-94) and Arizona State (1991-92).
The 39-year-old Marcus is a 1990 graduate of Ithaca College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. He earned a master’s degree in higher education from Arizona State in 1992.
