Six Cavaliers to Compete in NCAA Men’s Swimming Championship

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Six members of the Virginia men’s swimming and diving team will compete this weekend at the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, held March 15-17 at the Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.

Stefan Hirniak (Highland Park, N.J.), Ryan Hurley (Potomac, Md.), Rich Hutton (Leicestershire, U.K.), Pat Mellors (Pittsburgh, Pa.), John Millen (Lilburn, Ga.), and Vanja Rogulj (Zagreb, Croatia) will make the trip to represent the Cavaliers.

The highest seeded Cavalier in the meet is Mellors, who is the No. 2 seed in the 400 I.M. In the 200 I.M., Mellors is seeded ninth, and will be joined in the event by Rogulj. Rogulj is the seeded fifth in the 100 breaststroke and eighth in the 200 breaststroke. Hurley will also compete in both breaststroke events. Millen and Hirniak will swim the 200 and 500 free. Millen will also swim the 1650 free, while Hirniak will compete in the 200 butterfly. Mellors will also compete in the 200 backstroke. The Cavalier 800 free relay team of Mellors, Hutton, Hirniak, and Millen is seeded tenth.
