CHARLOTTESVILLE – The University of Virginia baseball team will open the home portion of its ACC schedule this weekend when it hosts Miami in a three-game series at Davenport Field. The teams will meet at 6 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. on Saturday, and at noon on Sunday.
The Cavaliers (20-4, 3-3 ACC) are No. 5 in the latest Baseball America and USA Today rankings released on this week. Virginia is a perfect 13-0 at home this season.
The Hurricanes (14-10, 2-4 ACC) is coming off a series win over Maryland last weekend at home. Miami defeated the Terrapins on Friday and Saturday before falling on Sunday.
Virginia will start sophomore right-hander Jacob Thompson (Danville, Va.) on Friday, freshman left-hander Matt Packer (Germantown, Tenn.) on Saturday, and junior left-hander Sean Doolittle (Tabernacle, N.J.) on Sunday. Miami will start freshman left-hander Eric Erickson on Friday, junior left-hander Scott Maine on Saturday, and junior right-hander Enrique Garcia on Sunday.
Friday and Sunday’s game will be broadcast online by ACC Select. All three games of the series will be broadcast on the radio by either WVAX or WINA.
Fans attending Friday’s game will receive a set of 2007 Cavalier baseball cards, while supplies last. Fans attending Saturday’s game will receive rally towels, while supplies last. Sunday’s game will feature Baseball Bingo.
