Men’s Tennis Returns Home to Host Virginia Tech Wednesday

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s tennis team will host intrastate rival Virginia Tech Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Snyder Tennis Center. For the Cavaliers, it is their first home match in a month after a six-match road trip.

The Cavaliers (16-3, 4-0 ACC) moved up to No. 2 in the newest ITA rankings released on Tuesday. In the individual rankings, Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) is No. 2, Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) is No. 22, and Dominic Inglot (London, England) is No. 84. In doubles, the team of Devvarman and Huey is No. 2 and the team of Inglot and Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.) is No. 49.

The Hokies (10-5, 1-3 ACC) are ranked No. 39 in the latest ITA rankings. Virginia Tech is led by Arvid Puranen, a 2006 NCAA singles qualifier, who is currently ranked No. 49 in the ITA singles rankings.

The match is worth one point in the Commonwealth Challenge, presented by Comcast. Virginia currently leads the all-sports competition between the schools by a score of 11.5-5.5.
