CHARLOTTESVILLE — The fifth-ranked Virginia baseball team plays host to George Mason Tuesday and Longwood Wednesday at Davenport Field. Both games begin at 5 p.m. WVAX Radio will carry both of the games.
Virginia (22-5, 5-4 ACC) won two of three games last weekend at home against Miami, taking the first two games by 4-1 and 3-0 counts before dropping the finale, 4-2.
The Cavaliers are ranked among the top six teams in the nation in each of the major polls this week. UVa is ranked No. 5 in the Baseball America poll and No. 6 in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll and the NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball rankings.
Virginia is ranked second in the ACC in team hitting (.345) and team pitching (2.45 ERA). Individually, three Cavaliers rank among the top 10 in batting average. Brandon Guyer is third (.439), while Greg Miclat is fourth (.433) and David Adams ninth (.396).
Guyer has been the hottest Cavalier hitter of late, with a season-best 12-game hitting streak. He is hitting .464 (26-56) during that stretch. Miclat is on a career-best 18-game hitting streak.
Virginia hits the road this weekend, traveling to Virginia Tech for three-game series.
